According to Spanish outlet Marca, Real Madrid is experiencing further behind-the-scenes instability after Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni were allegedly involved in a furious confrontation during training.

Marca claims that the event happened at Valdebebas on Wednesday morning after a vigorous challenge during a training exercise. Before teammates and staff interfered, what started out as a verbal argument apparently developed into the pair squaring up and pushing each other.

Although it’s unclear what transpired next, the story states that emotions persisted after the altercation and that the argument spilled into the dressing room.

The episode adds to a growing sense of instability around the squad in recent weeks. Kylian Mbappe’s incident and a different altercation between Antonio Rudiger and Alvaro Carreras had already been handled by Madrid.

According to reports, pressure has grown both on and off the field throughout a poor year.

Days before the Clásico versus Barcelona, where Madrid may see their rivals win La Liga, the most recent incident occurred at a very delicate time.

Bukayo Saka scored the game-winning goal as Arsenal defeated Atlético Madrid 1-0 to advance to the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in 20 years. Mikel Arteta’s team won 2–1 on aggregate, and the Emirates Stadium erupted in wild celebrations.

That performance by Diego Simeone’s side serves as a clear example of the path they must follow to secure their place in the final – one that is a far cry from the route they have taken on their last four visits to England, where they have suffered four consecutive defeats. 

Just after knocking out the Red Devils at Old Trafford, the ‘Rojiblancos’ had to travel to Manchester again, this time to face Manchester City in the first leg of the quarter-finals, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at the Etihad, which was enough for the Sky Blues to knock them out following a goalless draw in the return leg.

The ‘Rojiblancos’ were drawn against a Premier League side in the round of 16, having to return to English soil to seal their place in the quarter-finals. Simeone’s side had to sweat it out despite their commanding first-leg lead (5-2) in the second leg at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they suffered a 3-2 defeat, which was enough to see them through to the next round.
