Athletic Club 0-3 Barcelona: Lewandowski Lights Up San Mamés On LALIGA Final Day

Barcelona concluded their 2024–25 LaLiga campaign with a commanding 3–0 victory over Athletic Club at San Mamés, securing 88 points and capping a season that included the league title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup. 

First Half: Lewandowski’s Early Brace

The match began with Athletic Club pressing high, but Barcelona quickly asserted dominance.

In the 14th minute, Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with a deft chip over goalkeeper Unai Simón, following a precise through ball from Fermín López.

Just three minutes later, Lewandowski doubled the lead, capitalizing on a rebound from a corner to net his 101st goal for Barcelona. 

Second Half: Controlled Performance and Olmo’s Finish

In the second half, Barcelona maintained control, with Athletic Club struggling to break down their defense.

A notable moment came when Pau Cubarsí’s attempted clearance nearly resulted in an own goal, but goalkeeper Iñaki Peña was alert to the danger. 

As the match neared its conclusion, Dani Olmo was fouled in the penalty area by Yuri Berchiche.

After a review by the referee, a penalty was awarded, which Olmo converted in stoppage time to seal the 3–0 victory. 

Athletic Club’s Farewell to De Marcos

The match was also an emotional occasion for Athletic Club, as they bid farewell to club legend Óscar de Marcos, who retired after 16 seasons.

The stadium honored him with a guard of honor and a heartfelt tribute, culminating in a lap of appreciation around the pitch. 

Final Thoughts

Barcelona’s victory underscores their dominance in Spanish football this season, while Athletic Club, despite the loss, secured a return to the Champions League for the first time in 11 years.

Southampton 1–2 Arsenal: Ødegaard’s Late Strike Seals Gunners’ Victory

Arsenal concluded their Premier League season with a 2-1 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium, thanks to a late goal from captain Martin Ødegaard.

The win secured Arsenal’s third consecutive second-place finish in the league, ending the campaign 10 points behind champions Liverpool .

Kieran Tierney opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 43rd minute, marking a memorable farewell appearance before his return to Celtic.

Southampton, already relegated and under new manager Will Still, equalized through Ross Stewart, who capitalized on a promising debut by 18-year-old Jay Robinson .

Despite Southampton’s efforts, Ødegaard secured the win for Arsenal with a precise strike in the 89th minute.

The match also saw Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya earn a share of the Golden Glove award for most clean sheets this season .

Premier League Champions Liverpool Conclude Season with 1-1 Draw Against Crystal Palace

Anfield, May 25, 2025 — Liverpool wrapped up their triumphant 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Anfield.

The match, played in a celebratory atmosphere, saw the champions lift the trophy after the final whistle.
