Published

on

Barcelona concluded their 2024–25 LaLiga campaign with a commanding 3–0 victory over Athletic Club at San Mamés, securing 88 points and capping a season that included the league title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup.

First Half: Lewandowski’s Early Brace

The match began with Athletic Club pressing high, but Barcelona quickly asserted dominance.

In the 14th minute, Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with a deft chip over goalkeeper Unai Simón, following a precise through ball from Fermín López.

Just three minutes later, Lewandowski doubled the lead, capitalizing on a rebound from a corner to net his 101st goal for Barcelona.

Second Half: Controlled Performance and Olmo’s Finish

In the second half, Barcelona maintained control, with Athletic Club struggling to break down their defense.

A notable moment came when Pau Cubarsí’s attempted clearance nearly resulted in an own goal, but goalkeeper Iñaki Peña was alert to the danger.

As the match neared its conclusion, Dani Olmo was fouled in the penalty area by Yuri Berchiche.

After a review by the referee, a penalty was awarded, which Olmo converted in stoppage time to seal the 3–0 victory.

Athletic Club’s Farewell to De Marcos

The match was also an emotional occasion for Athletic Club, as they bid farewell to club legend Óscar de Marcos, who retired after 16 seasons.

The stadium honored him with a guard of honor and a heartfelt tribute, culminating in a lap of appreciation around the pitch.

Final Thoughts

Barcelona’s victory underscores their dominance in Spanish football this season, while Athletic Club, despite the loss, secured a return to the Champions League for the first time in 11 years.

Both teams now look ahead to the challenges of the upcoming season, with Barcelona aiming to build on their success and Athletic Club preparing for their European campaign.
