Real Madrid Dressing Room in Turmoil: Fights, Disciplinary Action, and a Fractured Season Ahead of El Clásico
Real Madrid’s 2025-26 season, already marred by elimination from the Champions League and a likely loss of the La Liga title to Barcelona, has descended into open chaos in the dressing room. Multiple incidents involving senior players have spilled into public view, culminating in a physical altercation between midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni that has triggered club intervention.
The Latest Flashpoint: Valverde vs. Tchouaméni
On May 7, 2026, Real Madrid confirmed they have opened disciplinary proceedings against both Valverde and Tchouaméni following a confrontation during training (with reports of a second clash the next day). Valverde was taken to the hospital for treatment after sustaining a cut to his forehead that required stitches.
According to reports, the initial dispute began during a training session and continued in the dressing room. Valverde later issued a detailed public statement addressing the incident:
“Yesterday I had an incident with a teammate during a training session. The fatigue from competition and the frustration made everything seem blown out of proportion… Today we had another disagreement. During the argument, I accidentally hit a table, causing a small cut on my forehead… At no point did my teammate hit me, I didn’t hit him either.”
Valverde emphasized the toll of a trophyless season and apologized, noting he is “truly sorry” and that the situation “hurts” him. He also referenced leaks from inside the dressing room amplifying the drama.
Club sources and medical updates indicate Valverde has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and will require 10-14 days of rest, meaning he will miss El Clásico on Sunday against Barcelona. Both players are at risk of further sanctions, including possible exclusion from the squad.
Earlier Incidents Fueling the Crisis
This is not an isolated event. Reports over recent weeks have painted a picture of widespread discontent:
Antonio Rüdiger and Álvaro Carreras: Rüdiger allegedly slapped Carreras during an earlier incident, with the team intervening. Weeks later, another heated screaming match reportedly forced Rüdiger to apologize. Carreras addressed it publicly on Instagram, calling it an “isolated incident” that was resolved.
Kylian Mbappé: The French forward reportedly had a verbal clash with a member of the coaching staff (under interim manager Álvaro Arbeloa). Broader frustrations regarding his integration, recovery, and performance have also been cited.
Additional issues include reduced tactical training sessions, internal leaks, players unhappy with teammates’ efforts, and an emergency squad meeting. President Florentino Pérez is said to be directly involved in addressing the unrest.
Context: A Season of Frustration
Real Madrid’s campaign has fallen short of their sky-high standards. With Barcelona on the verge of clinching the league (a draw or win in El Clásico could seal it), tensions have boiled over among a squad full of high-achievers unaccustomed to failure. The club is reportedly preparing a “small revolution” for next season, but the immediate focus is damage control.
Real Madrid’s official statement was measured:
“Following the events that took place this morning, the club has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against our players Fede Valverde & Aurélien Tchouaméni. The club will announce the outcome of both cases in due course.”
What Happens Next?
The club’s Code of Ethics allows for significant sanctions. While big clubs often weather dressing-room storms when results improve, the timing—days before the biggest match of the season—makes this particularly damaging. Valverde and Tchouaméni’s availability for El Clásico remains in doubt, and further punishments (fines, suspensions, or worse) could follow the internal investigation.
Real Madrid has a storied history of overcoming internal drama through professionalism and results. Whether this “complete chaos” becomes a footnote or a turning point will depend on how decisively the club acts—and how the players respond on the pitch. For now, the dressing room at Valdebebas is anything but united.

Real Madrid To Sign Marc Cucurella From Chelsea
According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid and Chelsea have verbally agreed to sign Marc Cucurella. All parties, including the player, are believed to have agreed on the transaction; just the final details are still pending.
It is anticipated that the transaction will be completed for about 50 million euros. Romano claims that Jose Mourinho has made a special request to bolster the left-back position. Cucurella will join the Spanish powerhouses ahead of the upcoming season after leaving Chelsea following the World Cup.
The La Masia graduate is expected to make a significant transfer to the Catalan team’s fiercest rivals. Cucurella earned La Liga experience while playing for Eibar and Getafe before joining the Premier League.
Because of his performances, he was transferred to Brighton & Hove Albion, where he made an impression before landing a job at Chelsea. He made 50 appearances for the London team in 2025–2026, including 34 in the Premier League, and recorded one goal and four assists.

Germany 7-1 Curacao: 4-Time World Champions Cruise Past Debutants
Germany defeated World Cup rookies Curacao 7-1 in Houston on Sunday to get off to a strong start in their FIFA World Cup campaign.
Felix Nmecha gave Germany the lead after just six minutes, and they seemed to be in total control. But in the twenty-first minute, Livano Comenencia took advantage of a defensive error to score Curacao’s first-ever World Cup goal, shocking the four-time world champions and sending their supporters into wild jubilation.
Curacao had a small glimmer of optimism after the historic equaliser, but Germany’s talent quickly proved too much. Before Kai Havertz scored from the penalty spot to give Julian Nagelsmann’s team a comfortable 3-1 lead going into halftime, Nico Schlotterbeck restored the lead.
After halftime, Germany maintained their lead thanks to a goal by Jamal Musiala a few minutes into the second half. Deniz Undav, Havertz, and Nathaniel Brown scored more goals as the Germans’ persistent offensive play overpowered their opponents.
Joshua Kimmich, who controlled the game’s tempo from midfield and provided assists, was crucial to Germany’s triumph. Curacao was unable to keep up with the Germans’ attacking movement and intensity because they had most of the possession and frequently generated opportunities.
Germany’s decisive win puts them atop Group E and gives their opponents a heads-up as they start their pursuit of World Cup title.
Even though Curacao lost badly in their tournament debut, the Caribbean nation will never forget the moment Comenencia scored their first goal on the largest football stage; a significant accomplishment for football in the nation’s history.

Fulham To Appoint Alvaro Arbeloa As New Manager
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Alvaro Arbeloa is nearing his first Premier League managing position after reaching the final stages of a deal to take over as Fulham’s head coach.
Fabrizio Romano claims that only the final details need to be finalised before Arbeloa is officially named Fulham’s new manager, following Marco Silva’s departure from Craven Cottage to take over at Benfica after five seasons.
Despite having little senior leadership experience, the former Real Madrid defender has a burgeoning reputation.
Before taking over Castilla, Arbeloa worked for several years in Madrid’s academy system and had success with the team’s young teams. He also temporarily took over the first-team dugout earlier this year after Xabi Alonso left.
Fulham would be taking a risk with the appointment. The London club believes Arbeloa’s tactical ideas, leadership, and elite footballing background could make him an interesting long-term fit, even though he lacks the Premier League experience of many candidates.
