Club Brugge 4-1 Monaco
Club Brugge made a statement in their opening Group Stage match, ripping Monaco apart with a 4-1 home win. Captain Hans Vanaken led by example, setting up the opener for Nicolo Tresoldi in the 32nd minute, before Raphael Onyedika doubled the lead from Carlos Forbs’ assist. Vanaken added a third with a thunderous strike before halftime.
Monaco briefly threatened after the restart but were undone by the youthful energy of Brugge. Nineteen-year-old Mamadou Diakhon sealed the win with his first goal for the club late on. Monaco got a consolation through Ansu Fati at the death, but Brugge’s domination was clear.
Copenhagen 2-2 Bayer Leverkusen
Copenhagen looked strong early on, taking an early lead via Jordan Larsson in the 9th minute following a cross from Elias Achouri. They controlled much of the first half and kept Leverkusen at bay.
Leverkusen improved in the second half and equalised with a free-kick from Alejandro Grimaldo hitting the underside of the bar. Copenhagen struck back with a header from Robert. In stoppage time, substitute Claudio Echeverri’s cross deflected off Pantelis Hatzidiakos for an own goal, giving Leverkusen a dramatic point.
Manchester City 2-0 Napoli
Manchester City opened their campaign with a clean 2-0 win against Napoli. The turning point came when Napoli’s captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo was sent off early for denying a goal-scoring chance, leaving the Italians with ten men for most of the contest.
City finally broke through in the second half when Erling Haaland scored from a Phil Foden header in the 56th minute. Jeremy Doku added a second ten minutes later to seal the victory. Napoli’s resistance faded after the red card, while City showed their ruthless edge to start with three points.
Newcastle United 1-2 Barcelona
Barcelona began their Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win away at Newcastle United. Marcus Rashford stole the spotlight, scoring twice in the second half: first with a header from Jules Koundé’s cross in the 58th minute, and then a stunning long-range strike in the 67th.
Newcastle fought back late through Anthony Gordon in the 90th minute, but Barça held on in the closing stages. Despite Newcastle’s early pressure, Barcelona’s composure under fire and clinical finishing made the difference.
Sporting CP 4-0 Kairat Almaty
Sporting CP delivered a commanding performance in their opener, running out 4-1 winners over Kairat Almaty. From the outset they dominated possession, showed sharpness in attack, and exploited defensive gaps in the visitors’ lines.
Kairat had very few clear chances, and Sporting’s clinical finishing ensured that momentum never swung away from the Portuguese side. A statement win to start their Group Stage campaign with confidence.
Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 Galatasaray
Eintracht Frankfurt made a powerful statement by dismantling Galatasaray 5-1 at home. The hosts came out fast, scoring multiple goals in the first half to take a firm grip on the match. Their attacking players looked sharp, and Galatasaray found themselves chasing from early on.
Galatasaray managed to pull one back, but Frankfurt kept pushing, adding more goals to seal a resounding win. Defensive frailties and a lack of cutting edge cost the visitors, while Frankfurt’s cohesion and attacking depth were on full display.

Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City: Martinelli Strikes Late to Deny Guardiola’s Men

Arsenal and Manchester City shared the spoils in a tense Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, as Gabriel Martinelli’s stoppage-time strike salvaged a 1-1 draw for the Gunners. The result leaves Arsenal unbeaten against City in recent meetings, but both sides may feel they missed a chance to make a strong statement in the title race.
City made the brighter start and struck in just the ninth minute. Tijjani Reijnders launched a rapid counterattack, combining with Erling Haaland, who finished with trademark precision past David Raya to give the visitors the lead. Arsenal, by contrast, struggled for rhythm in the first half, finding it difficult to break down City’s compact shape while also leaving themselves vulnerable on the break.
The second half saw a shift in momentum. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta introduced Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze, whose energy and creativity tilted the game in the home side’s favour. Arsenal pressed higher, dominated possession, and carved out opportunities, but City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma stood firm, making key saves to frustrate the Gunners. Pep Guardiola’s side, meanwhile, chose to sit deep and protect their narrow lead, sacrificing attacking intent in favour of defensive organisation.
Just when it seemed City’s resilience would deliver all three points, Arsenal struck back in dramatic fashion. In the third minute of stoppage time, Eze’s long ball released Martinelli, who kept his composure to lob Donnarumma and send the Emirates into raptures. The goal secured a deserved point for Arsenal, who had pressed relentlessly in search of an equaliser.
The result leaves Arsenal on 10 points from five matches, while City sit on seven. For Arsenal, the draw was a relief but also a reminder of the fine margins in top-level contests. For City, the late concession underscored lingering questions about their ability to maintain control when defending a lead. Both teams, however, remain firmly in the early title picture, and Sunday’s clash offered a glimpse of the intensity likely to define the race ahead.
