A/R: 25-Year-Old Arrested with Cache of Ammunition and Military Gear Near Asankare Police Barrier

A 25-year-old man, Yussif Mohammed, is in police custody after being found in possession of a significant stockpile of ammunition, weapons accessories, and military-style gear near the Asankare Police barrier in the Ashanti Region.
The arrest occurred on Wednesday, May 8, following a collaborative effort between the Konongo Divisional Police Command and vigilant members of the public.
According to police, the incident unfolded when a backpack fell from an Accra-bound passenger bus traveling from Kumasi, on which Yussif was a passenger. Observant eyewitnesses noticed the dropped bag and quickly alerted nearby officers, who moved in to investigate.
A search of the backpack revealed a disturbing assortment of items, including:
- 207 rounds of assorted ammunition: 97 G3 rounds, 42 AK-47 rounds, and 35 CZ rounds
- Two G3 magazines loaded with live rounds, along with empty CZ and G3 magazines
- A bulletproof vest, military trousers, boots, and smocks adorned with talismans
- A crash helmet, black and green pullovers, jackets, and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp
At a press briefing, Ashanti South Regional Police Commander ACP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba confirmed the arrest and detailed the items recovered.
“The suspect was on a bus bound for Accra from Kumasi when the backpack fell off. Police officers responded promptly after being alerted and apprehended him when he admitted ownership of the bag,” ACP Nyaaba said.
He added that investigations are underway and that the suspect will be processed for court in the coming days.
The commander also issued a stern warning to criminals operating in the region, emphasizing the police’s increased vigilance and commitment to maintaining public safety.
“We are intensifying our efforts to rid communities of criminals and ensure that citizens can go about their daily lives in peace and security,” he stated.
ACP Nyaaba appealed to the public to support law enforcement by remaining vigilant and sharing information that could aid in crime prevention.
“We cannot do this alone. Community vigilance is essential,” he said.
The incident has raised alarm over the quantity and type of weaponry recovered from a single individual, with authorities now probing the suspect’s motives and possible connections.
Further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.

VIDEO: Ghanaian Woman Searches For Chinese ‘Galamsey’ Lover Who Fled After Impregnating Her

A resident of Abodom in the Ashanti Region’s Asante Bekwai Municipality named Selina Adu Gyamfi has accused her Chinese partner, Leon, of leaving her after reportedly getting her pregnant.
Selina says she met Leon years ago in Bekwai while he was involved in illicit mining, sometimes known as galamsey.
The two fell in love, and she says Leon provided her with regular financial support throughout that time.
“My issue is that some Chinese people came to Abodom, Asante Bekwai, for galamsey. I had a relationship with one of them called Leon. When they were leaving, I didn’t know I was pregnant,” she narrated.
On Nhyira FM’s social program, Selina talked about how she trusted and became personal with Leon since he had promised to be with her.
“He told me he loved me. He used to give me 1,000 cedis a week or sometimes 500 cedis every three days,” she recounted.
According to Selina, she didn’t find out she was pregnant until two months after Leon and his coworkers had departed Bekwai.
Leon was originally happy when she called him and told him she was pregnant, but his attitude changed after that.
“I called to inform him I was pregnant and he said he liked it but I don’t know what people told him; he started avoiding me and eventually blacklisted me,” she said.
Selina became irate and went looking for Leon, who was then arrested after she told the police about the situation.
She claims, however, that the police soon freed him.
“Leon was good to me while we were together but now I’m struggling to take care of the child alone. I don’t know where he is,” she said.
Now, as she struggles to raise the child alone, Selina is pleading with the public and authorities to assist her in finding Leon.

PHOTOS: Two More Buildings Collapse In Cape Coast After Heavy Rains

Two additional buildings have collapsed in Cape Coast, bringing the total number of destroyed structures in the area to six in just one week.
The most recent event happened on Thursday, June 26 after a heavy downpour. Around 10 p.m., a residential structure in Brofoyedur, central Cape Coast, collapsed.

Thankfully, no fatalities were reported because the residents had already fled the house because it had previously flooded. The residents have been unwilling to move, even though it is obvious that the compromised structure poses a threat. On Friday, June 27, Esi Mary, one of the locals, said that the government must step in immediately.
“The downpour that happened yesterday has drained all the sand into the gutter, and that has caused a blockage leading to a flood, and that flood has ended up destroying our houses. No one was hurt. All our machines in the building have been damaged by the rain,” she lamented.
A storey building that was still under construction collapsed at the West End, next to Adisadel College, in a different occurrence. Although there were no recorded injuries in that structure, the municipality’s building safety worries have increased due to the frequent failures. In response, Eduamoah Okyere Ekow Panyin, the Central Regional Minister, ordered the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly to remove all damaged buildings right now in order to stop other tragedies.
“We have ordered that the remaining building be brought down as early as possible so we can have an arrangement with the family to see how best we can assist. In the meantime, we have asked them to move to a different area and stay there for a while. We arrange how to assist them,” the minister said.
