Hohoe: Mobile Money Vendor Commits Suicide
Information reaching us at AladdynKingMedia.com indicates that a mobile money (MoMo) vendor who lived in Torkoni/Blave in the Volta Region’s Hohoe Municipality committed suicide, shocking and depressing the locals.
On Thursday, January 8, 2026, at roughly 1800 hours, word of the occurrence spread.
The deceased, whose identity is yet unknown, also sold brushes, toothpaste, and sponges at the Hohoe major lorry station.
Mr. Derek Adzoe, Assembly Member for the Torkoni/Blave Electoral Area, stated that the deceased was a MoMo vendor who had been heard making phone calls earlier in the day.
He claimed that the communication implied that someone was requesting money from the deceased, who clarified that he would pay the sum using electronic cash (e-cash) or MoMo.
According to accounts, some people later went to the deceased’s home, knocked on his door, and threatened to denounce him to the police, Mr. Adzoe continued.
He claimed that the brother of the deceased described how the calls affected his sibling’s mood, but he did not reveal the problem.
Mr. Adzoe claims that the brother went to town and returned to find the door shut.
The deceased was discovered dead when the door was forced open following multiple failed phone attempts to contact them.
The police had taken the body to the mortuary for more examinations, according to Mr. Adzoe, who was on the scene.

Assin Fosu: Man Burnt To Death In Suspected Arson Attack
In a suspected arson attack in a slum at Assin Fosu on Thursday morning, a 26-year-old guy known as Efutu, who was unemployed, burned to death.
Early in the morning, a fire broke out in his wooden building, causing the catastrophe.
Around 0700 hours, firefighters and police reacted to a distress call from residents, which led to the discovery of his burnt remains.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rosemond Duncan, the Assin Fosu District Crime Officer, stated that when the Ghana National Fire Service personnel arrived to put out the fire, the building had already been demolished.
Some residents suspected foul play, alleging that a group of mechanics in the area had previously threatened to burn Efutu alive or evict him from the structure, accusing him of stealing from their shops.
“It’s no surprise. The fitters warned they would burn him or drive him out. That’s why we believe they intentionally set the place on fire,” one resident claimed.
Others, however, thought the fire might have been unintentional because they reported seeing Efutu acting strangely while smoking earlier, which raised the chance that a cigarette that had been dropped could have ignited the fire.
After the incident, tensions increased when some irate young people, who were said to be the deceased’s acquaintances, confronted the police with clubs and sticks and demanded that the mechanics be arrested right away.
The District Police asked the Divisional Police, the Regional Command, and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) for assistance in order to stop more disturbances.
Investigations to determine the precise origin of the fire are still ongoing, according to ASP Duncan, who confirmed that the body has been placed at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital mortuary in Assin Fosu.

Ghana Declares War On Illegal Streaming Of Pay-TV Content
The National Communications Authority (NCA), in a multi-agency collaboration, has announced a fresh offensive against internet streaming piracy of pay-TV content, citing severe financial losses to the state and creative sector, alongside heightened cybersecurity threats to consumers.
In a press release issued on December 31, 2025, the regulator stated that a stakeholder committee, led by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI), is now actively working with the Cybersecurity Authority and Multichoice Ghana to clamp down on illegal streaming platforms.
The authority detailed the triple-threat posed by piracy, stating, “The Committee, comprising representatives from the MoCDTI, NCA and Multichoice, is collaborating with other agencies including the Cybersecurity Authority to curb internet streaming piracy of pay TV content which causes loss of tax revenue, loss of revenue to the creative industry and increases consumer security risks to malware and phishing schemes.”
This coordinated move signals a shift towards treating content piracy not merely as a copyright issue, but as a national security and economic concern.
The involvement of the Cybersecurity Authority highlights the government’s focus on the dangers posed to consumers, who risk exposure to data theft and malicious software through illicit streaming sites and services.
The announcement also provided an update on the revised DSTV subscription packages, which came into effect on 1st October, 2025.
The NCA confirmed that these enhanced value offerings “were duly implemented as announced and REMAIN IN FORCE.”
The regulator reported a positive public response to the changes, noting “a significant increase in subscriptions” following their implementation.
The stakeholder committee, established to evaluate DSTV pricing, continues its work under the minister’s chairmanship.
The NCA affirmed that the “Working Group will continue its engagements to ensure our mutual commitments to the objectives are attained,” indicating ongoing oversight of both the market’s pricing structure and the anti-piracy initiative.
This crackdown aims to protect legitimate content providers, ensure compliance with broadcasting regulations, and steer consumers towards secure, legal avenues for accessing pay-TV content, thereby safeguarding both the creative economy and individual users.
