Jeffrey Nortey pays homage to Ga Mantse ahead of show in June

Published

Popular Ghanaian actor and content creator, Jeffrey Nortey, has paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra, ahead of his highly-anticipated stage event slated for June 14, 2025, at the National Theatre.

The visit, which took place on Wednesday, was to formally invite the King to the event and to seek his wise counsel. Nortey emphasised the significance of the meeting, describing it as an opportunity to draw inspiration and guidance from the Ga monarch as he continues to elevate his creative journey.

In his remarks, Nortey reflected on the growing acclaim for his recent digital performances, particularly the Ga-language skits featuring veteran actress Kalsoume Sinare. These culturally rich and humorous portrayals have not only gone viral on social media but also sparked renewed interest in Ga heritage and storytelling.

“This visit is more than just an invitation. It is a moment of learning and connecting with tradition, which I believe will reflect in my next performance,” Nortey stated.

Speaking on behalf of the Ga Mantse, the Paramount Chief of the Abola Traditional Area, Nii Ahene Nunoo III, applauded Nortey for championing Ga culture through his craft. He assured the actor of the Ga State’s full support and presence at the June event, commending him for using entertainment as a vehicle for cultural preservation.

Jeffrey Nortey’s first major show, 3FacesOfJeffreyNortey, held in December 2023 at Snap Cinemas, was a resounding success. Audiences were captivated by his portrayal of three distinct characters, with the comical and edgy “Dragon” persona becoming a fan favourite.

With his next performance around the corner, expectations are high. Backed by cultural recognition and growing popularity, Jeffrey Nortey is poised to deliver yet another unforgettable experience for fans and first-timers alike.

I’m happy to use my skits to promote Ga Language – Jeffrey Nortey

Published

on

Actor and content creator Jefferey Nortey has expressed deep satisfaction in using his craft to promote the Ga language and culture.

In an interview on The Chat show on Channel One TV on June 7, 2025, Nortey shared that although he is widely recognised for his comedy skits, his true fulfillment comes from showcasing and preserving his native language.

For Nortey, promoting the Ga language transcends entertainment—it’s a personal mission grounded in cultural pride and identity.

“I know I have been doing skits, but I find some fulfillment in it. This is because I am projecting the Ga Language, which is everything to me.

“At least if I am called by my maker, I can say that I have contributed my quota to the growth of the Ga Community,” he stated.

MUSIGA and Copyright Office pledge stronger collaboration to tackle music industry challenges

Published

on

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Copyright Office have reaffirmed their commitment to greater collaboration in addressing key challenges facing Ghana’s music industry, including royalty distribution issues and operational hurdles within the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).

The high-level meeting, held on 2 June 2025, brought together MUSIGA executives and senior officials from the Copyright Office to explore solutions to longstanding industry concerns. Discussions focused on strengthening copyright protection, improving royalty systems, and resolving disputes within GHAMRO that have hindered its effective functioning.

Royalty distribution delays and inconsistencies were a major concern raised, with MUSIGA President, Mr Bessa Simons, stressing the financial reliance of many musicians on these payments. Despite around 80% of musicians being registered with GHAMRO, irregularities in disbursement remain a pressing issue.

Legal disputes within GHAMRO have further stalled its operations, with conflicts over election procedures, constitutional inconsistencies, and multiple court cases. The Copyright Office clarified that only the courts have the mandate to impose interim leadership, and that the Attorney General’s office must act within legal bounds.

To address the deadlock, it was proposed that neutral mediators or respected industry elders facilitate dialogue among stakeholders. Mr William Akwetey Bonsu, Director of the Copyright Office, urged parties to withdraw legal actions and embrace constructive engagement to prevent further damage to the music sector. He confirmed that legal guidance has been provided to ensure judicial timelines are honoured.

Mr Bonsu also underscored the importance of collaboration between MUSIGA and the Copyright Office in safeguarding the rights of musicians and nurturing a vibrant creative environment. He pledged the Office’s continued neutrality and support for professional unity within the sector.

Mr Simons updated attendees on MUSIGA’s recent activities, including capacity-building programmes focused on digital trends and live band performance.

He outlined upcoming events marking the Union’s Golden Jubilee, such as the Authentic Highlife Nights in July, the She Rhythms Ghana Festival in December, and the long-awaited Presidential Grand Ball, which has not been held since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also present at the meeting were MUSIGA General Secretary S.K. Agyemang, Administrator Vida Obeng Kwarteng Asante, and Samuel Awuku Djakete, Principal Research Officer of the Copyright Office.
