W/R: Three Suspects Nabbed in Failed Robbery Attempt at Nyanikrom

The Western Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with a brazen daylight robbery that occurred at Nyanikrom, near Shama Junction, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
In a statement signed by Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the Regional Police Headquarters in Sekondi, authorities confirmed that the arrests followed a targeted surveillance operation based on credible intelligence.
According to police reports, the suspects are believed to have conspired using insider information to intercept corporate funds that had just been withdrawn from a bank in Takoradi for salary payments.
The robbery took place around 12:00 p.m. as company employees were returning from the bank. The attackers, using an unregistered sedan and a motorbike, ambushed the victims near Unique School Junction in Nyanikrom. The suspects allegedly shattered the vehicle’s windows and made away with the cash.
However, due to prior surveillance, police responded swiftly and arrested three suspects. They also retrieved GHC149,500, believed to be the stolen money.
The suspects have been identified as:
- Francis Mensah, also known as Francis Kwaw, 34 years
- Ebenezer Cofie, 32 years
- Samuel Bentum, 35 years
All three are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Authorities have also named Maxwell Kofi Yeboah, a corporate driver, as a suspected accomplice who remains at large. A manhunt has been launched to locate and arrest him.
The Police Command has assured the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the remaining suspect and ensure that all individuals involved are brought to justice.

Ablekuma North: Hawa Koomson, Akua Afriyie Assaulted By Unknown Macho Men – VIDEO

Former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has been attacked during a chaos that erupted during the parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency on Friday, July 11.
Tensions escalated during the parliamentary rerun at Ablekuma North constituency when a group of unidentified macho men stormed St. Peter’s polling station, disrupting the process and unleashing violence on political figures and journalists.

According to Channel One News’ Jude Duncan, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, and a female party agent were severely assaulted during the incident. Both reportedly suffered facial injuries, with visible swelling.
Eyewitnesses described the arrival of the attackers as highly coordinated, causing panic among voters and halting the voting process temporarily. Security personnel were deployed to restore calm and ensure the continuation of the election.

The rerun, covering 19 polling stations, was organized by the EC to resolve months-long electoral dispute stemming from the December 7, 2024, general elections. The process is intended to restore parliamentary representation to the constituency, which has remained without a Member of Parliament since then.

Despite the NPP’s official boycott of the rerun—citing unfairness in the EC’s decision—its candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, defied the party’s directive and actively participated in the contest. Political tensions in the area remain high following the violent incident.

Ablekuma North Chaos: NPP Deputy National Organiser Brutally Beaten

The Deputy National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, was brutally assaulted at the St. Peter’s Polling Station in Odorkor, Ablekuma North.
The incident occurred during Friday’s parliamentary rerun when chaos broke out after a group of unidentified individuals stormed the polling station, attacking several NPP members, including Asamoah.

A video circulating on social media shows Asamoah being mercilessly beaten by individuals alleged to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The assault forced an immediate halt to the voting process and caused panic among voters.

In the footage, Asamoah is seen attempting to flee but is overpowered, forced to the ground, and subjected to repeated kicks and punches.
NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson were also reportedly targeted during the melee.

Police Interdict Officer Seen Assaulting Reporter In Viral Video

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted an officer caught on video assaulting a journalist who refused to leave a polling station during election duty in Ablekuma North.
In a statement released, the Police Service confirmed that the officer involved has been withdrawn from election duty at Ablekuma North re-run.
“In line with internal disciplinary procedures, he has been interdicted and referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for investigation,” the statement said.

The Service further assured the public, “We would like to assure the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the matter and further updates will be communicated.
The incident, captured in a viral video, shows the officer physically confronting a reporter identified only as Banahene. According to Mr. Banahene, the officer approached him and demanded that he leave the premises despite other media personnel being allowed to remain.
“He just came to approach me that I should leave the premises. Meanwhile, there were other media guys at the premises, he didn’t ask anybody to leave but he just approached me to leave,” Mr. Banahene told reporters.
When the journalist refused to leave, insisting on fulfilling his professional duty to report on unfolding events, the situation escalated. “I said no I can’t go — what if I go and something happens? How do I report?” Banahene explained. “He was pushing me and he slapped me in the face for no reason. I have not done anything wrong to anybody.”
