National Security Impounds 7 Trucks In Suspected Goods Diversion Scheme

Seven trucks suspected of being involved in the diversion of products have been seized by national security operations in the Ashanti Region.
Officials said that truckers who transport products from the Tema Port say they are going to Burkina Faso, but they discharge the goods at Kumasi to avoid paying the duty that is due.
During investigations by National Security officials to determine the true destination, the trucks were stopped near Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region and sent to Kumasi.
Officials insist that the items were being diverted to Kumasi and other regions of the Ashanti Region because their owners were avoiding taxes, despite the drivers’ claims that they were taking the products to Burkina Faso.
Customs and National Security officers worked together to accompany every truck to Kumasi. Additionally, officials have stated that they are trying to locate the commodities’ owners as part of their investigations. Since then, customs officials have seized the seized vehicles.
