Sammy Gyamfi Responds to Backlash Over Viral Video of Cash Handout to Nana Agradaa
Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has responded to widespread public criticism following the emergence of a viral video he described as a private act of kindness that unexpectedly made its way into the public eye.
The video, circulating widely online, shows a brief interaction between Gyamfi and Patricia Oduro Koranteng, better known as Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess turned evangelist. In the footage, Agradaa is heard requesting US dollar notes from Gyamfi’s vehicle. Shortly after, the Acting CEO is seen counting out several dollar bills, which Agradaa then grabs and displays to onlookers.

In the wake of the video’s release, Gyamfi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to clarify the situation that has stirred public outcry. In his statement, he explained that the gesture was part of his “long-standing custom of helping those in need.”
“I sincerely thought I was performing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined it would be made public. That is unfortunate and regrettable,” Gyamfi wrote.
Acknowledging the negative reactions, including from his political allies, Gyamfi offered a sincere apology. “I understand the uproar this gesture has caused, especially from comrades who are genuinely hurt by it. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this regrettable lapse in judgment. I respect and appreciate your views,” he stated.
Gyamfi also expressed his gratitude to those who offered support during what he described as a challenging time, acknowledging their solidarity.
In closing, he reaffirmed his commitment to public service and reiterated that his understanding of public office remains steadfast. “My view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems, and help others has not changed,” he said.
He ended his message by wishing Ghanaians a peaceful Sunday and extending his Mother’s Day greetings.
“Stay blessed and have a blissful Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out here.”
