Paris Saint-Germain staged a dramatic comeback against Tottenham Hotspur to win the 2025 UEFA Super Cup 4-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw. The fixture, held on 13 August 2025 at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy, marked PSG’s first triumph in the competition.

Tottenham, managed by Thomas Frank in his maiden competitive match, delivered a tactically polished performance. They took a surprise 2-0 lead with set-piece goals from Micky van de Ven and new captain Cristian Romero, both heads from dead-ball routines.

PSG’s response came late in the game. Lee Kang-in broke through in the 85th minute, followed by a stoppage-time equalizer from Gonçalo Ramos, powered in with a diving header from a cross by Ousmane Dembélé.

The match proceeded to penalties. Tottenham began well when Vitinha missed PSG’s first spot-kick, but subsequent misses from Micky van de Ven and Mathys Tel swung momentum back to PSG. Nuno Mendes sealed the win with a confident final conversion, securing PSG’s victory.

Tactically, Tottenham’s disciplined back-three structure and set-piece proficiency highlighted preparation under Frank. Yet fatigue and a lapse in focus late in the game allowed PSG to exploit spaces and turn the tide.

PSG, meanwhile, overcame limited match sharpness. Their substitutions, particularly Lee and Ramos, provided energy and composure. The resilience shown under Luis Enrique ultimately proved decisive.

In regular time, Tottenham outperformed in possession and early control, while PSG’s dominance took shape late when urgency increased. The statistics underlined the tactical contrast between Spurs’ control and PSG’s efficient finishing.

PSG’s win adds to their stellar 2025 success, marking their fifth major trophy of the year. For Tottenham, the narrow defeat offered encouraging signs of structure, discipline, and a promising direction under new leadership.
